About Me
Matty Schweitzer is an award-winning filmmaker, director, and cinematographer born and raised on Maui, Hawai‘i.
With more than 15 years behind the camera, Matty has built his career around telling authentic, visually powerful stories rooted in people, culture, adventure, and the natural world. Through his production company, Island Eye Productions, his work has taken him from the mountains to the ocean and around the world, producing films, documentaries, commercials, and branded content.
Before filmmaking became his primary focus, Matty spent much of his life as a professional athlete and big-wave surfer. That background continues to shape the way he works today—bringing an athlete’s instinct, adaptability, and willingness to push into environments where traditional filmmaking can be difficult.
His films have received numerous awards and festival recognition, including Best Film Made in Hawai‘i at the Hawai‘i International Film Festival for Lahaina Rising, his feature documentary chronicling the devastating 2023 Lahaina wildfire, its history, and the resilience of the community he calls home.
Whether filming from the air, in the water, or on the ground, Matty approaches every project with the same goal: capture something real and turn it into a story people can feel.
He continues to live and work on Maui with his family, creating films in Hawai‘i and around the world.
